We have had our differences but Spiderplant certainly has a knack of being in the right place at the right time. There are some good pics on her site of the events that unfolded today in Whitehall. As we are now officially coalition partners, I hope that we’ll be able to move forward in [...] Not particularly unexpectedly, the papers continue to turn on Gordon Brown as Labour heads for utter wipeout at the election. The Times, which has backed Labour for the past three elections, returns to the Conservatives along with the Sunday Express but interestingly the Grauniad and its sister The Observer is backing the Liberal Democrats, [...] Yesterday evening saw the first leaders’ debate on television and by and large the media is portraying Nick Clegg as the winner. I didn’t see the debate for reasons that are obvious below but spent a bit of time in work this morning calming down my colleagues about Nick Clegg (they’ve come to expect [...] Barnes Wallis, inventor of the bouncing bomb, among other things There’s a very interesting letter published in the Times today that sums up one of the big post-election questions and ties in to the Conservative Political Discussion Group debate that was held tonight at Churchill House. Conservatives all agree that the public sector [...] Despite the Question Time fever, the finale of Masterchef and the Man Utd v Bayern Munich game, we ran clean out of chairs at Horsell Village Hall this evening for the Horsell Residents Association AGM. Sometimes these evenings can be a draining experience but never with HRA – Rob Harris keeps a firm hand [...] Some very sad news to taint an otherwise bright Easter weekend – Sir Alec Bedser, one of the greatest cricketers of his generation and long-standing Horsell resident, died yesterday aged 91. Many more senior residents will remember the heyday of the Bedser twins (his brother Eric died in 2006) in the 1940s and early 50s [...] When I outlined my idea of a Community Question Time for Woking, I had no idea that BBC Question Time would be coming to Woking on April 7. It is the same evening as the Horsell Residents’ Association AGM, which I will be going to instead. It goes without saying that I’m more bothered [...] It's no good looking down on Woking – people want a dialogue! I went along to the Community Question Time held at HG Wells on Wednesday night, which promised to allow residents the chance to quiz members of a panel including WBC chief executive Ray Morgan on matters of interest within Woking. It [...] Anyone fancy a stroll around this? Thought not. This year’s Horsell Garden Safari in aid of Horsell Village Hall will be held on 19 and 20 June, which just happens to be the week before our wedding, so that kind of rules me out of opening up our garden, as I had hoped [...] |
